Grendel (グレンデル Gurenderu), commonly known as the "Grendel family" (グレンデル一家 Gurenderu ikka), is a small militant group led by Kurt Grendel, first introduced in Force. Like the Hückebein family, the actual familial status of the members is uncertain.

Name[]

In the Anglo-Saxon mythology, Grendel was a man-eating monster slain by the hero Beowulf.

Organization[]

The Grendel family is active in the first to the third administrated worlds. They are infected by the Eclipse virus around the second part of Force.

In Force[]

In Force (ch.22), they attack Special Duty Section 6 which is guarding the transportation of AEC Armament, aiming to rob the Raptor units. While their surprise attack initially gave them the opperhand against the Section 6 members stationed there, the tides turned against them once reinforcements arrived along with unrequested aid from Cypha of Hückebein.

Afterwards, the Grendels were transported to Maritine Prison for interrogation and treatment for their EC symptoms. After being offered a plea deal, the Grendels' leader, Kurt, revealed the Vandein Corporation to be the ones who hired as well as infected them with Eclipse. Bombs that Vandein implanted into them to silence them are activated, but they malfunction and all members survive, though some are send to emergency treatment due to extensive blood loss.

Due to the plea deal they struck, the Grendels were given a relatively large amount of freedom while in captivity. However, it seems that getting captured and the bombs malfunctioning were actually all part of their plan to free themselves from Vandein's control. After spending some time laying low at Maritine Prison, they retrieved their belongings and attempted an escape, but were easily intercepted by Nanoha Takamachi.

Following their failed escape, Nanoha and Cinque offered them a full pardon in return for them aiding the investigation by tracking down their Vandein contact who supplied them with EC weapons. However, they refused, unwilling to become pawns of the TSAB. It is then revealed that the Grendel Family was founded by Kurt, Lolo, and Mariya, with Quinn joining later. Because of this, Kurt instead offers to lend them Quinn, much to her annoyance. In the end, the officers accept the deal while Kurt is confident that he can convince Quinn to go along with it.
