Jacket Purge (ジャケットパージ Jaketto Pāji) is a defensive function of a mage's Barrier Jacket, with which the caster takes the initiative to "unravels" in a second all the mana used to comprise his/her Barrier Jacket to cause a blast.
It creates a shock to the surrounding area and can disrupt binding spells. However, the caster will be vulnerable for a few moments after purging the Jacket, and requires mana to rebuild it.[1]
Name[]
Jacket Purge is the name used explicitly by Nanoha Takamachi in Reflection. It is also the name used on the Japanese Nanoha wiki.
Notable uses[]
- It is first seen in A's (ep.10), using by Fate Testarossa against the tentacles of the Scarlet Dragon, with command phrase "Barrier Jacket, purge!". She simultaneously sets up (collectively form-changes to) Sonic Form and brings Nanoha Takamachi away from those tentacles.
- In Reflection, Nanoha uses this function to escape from the capturing wires from Kyrie Florian's Mobile Shells. Her order to Raising Heart is also "Barrier Jacket, purge!", while Raising Heart's command is "Purge blast!"
- In ViVid (ch.97), together with the mana from her collapsing three-layer defenses, Vivio Takamachi purges her Barrier Jacket to create a blast, and takes advantage of its shock to break away from Nanoha's Blaster 2 Starlight Breaker, as explained by Teana Lanster and flashed back in ViVid (ch.98).
Variations[]
Reactor Purge is the passive and reactive version of Jacket Purge for last-resort defense.
