Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's (魔法少女リリカルなのは エース Mahō Shōjo Ririkaru Nanoha Ēsu) is a thirteen episode anime that aired between November 10 and December 24, 2005. It is the sequel to Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha and thus, the second entry in the main"main" is not in the list (Original, Primary, Movie, Portable, Brave Duel, Standalone, Adaptation) of allowed values for the "Continuity" property. Nanoha continuity.
Story
Six months after the end of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Fate is returning to Midchilda to stand trial while Nanoha returns to the life of an ordinary girl. However she is attacked by a mysterious red knight that serves as one of the guardians for another of the Lost Logia, the Book of Darkness. This blank tome must be filled with magic drained from mages' Linker Cores and the spirits of ordinary living beings in order to be completed, otherwise it constantly drains the health of its current owner, Hayate Yagami. As old friends reunite to deal with the new threat, they discover the truth behind the Book and its troubled history with the Time-Space Administration Bureau.

| Signum breaks into the TSAB barrier to help out her teammates with a fight soon following. Nanoha and Fate gain the advantage over their opponents, but a mysterious man arrives to help, and Shamal sacrifices some of the Book of Darkness's pages in order to destroy the barrier and allow the Wolkenritter to escape. It is revealed that the Wolkenritter are programs of the Book of Darkness. | ||

| Fate and Nanoha again confront Signum and Vita, trying to get them to reveal their motivations. The mysterious man protects Vita from Nanoha's attack, and then intervenes in Signum's fight with Fate, stealing Fate's Linker Core and incapacitating her. | ||

| Hayate's condition worsens, and she is hospitalized after collapsing at home. The TSAB realize that the Book of Darkness is going to kill Hayate upon its completion. Nanoha and Fate visit Hayate in the hospital through Suzuka, a mutual friend. | ||

| Chrono continues his research on the Book of Darkness. On Christmas Eve, Nanoha and Fate give Hayate a surprise visit, and encounter the Wolkenritter in the hospital room, learning of their connection to her. The groups fight that night on the hospital roof, but two masked men intervene, drain the Wolkenritter's Linker cores and summoning Hayate to the roof while disguised as Nanoha and Fate, and kill Vita in front of her to force her to awaken the Book of Darkness. | ||

| Hayate is engulfed by the Book's power. Chrono fights the masked men and discovers that they are the Liese Twins, Admiral Gil Graham's familiars, and that Graham had planned for Hayate to complete the Book of Darkness in order to seal it and her away. While Arisa and Suzuka learn the truth about Nanoha and Fate, Fate gets absorbed by the Book of Darkness. | ||

| Although the danger is averted, the potential for the corruption to return remains, and Reinforce gives up her existence in order to prevent that. Hayate and the Wolkenritter join the TSAB, and Nanoha tells her family about what she has been doing as a mage. Six years later, Nanoha, Fate and Hayate are in middle school, with Hayate having a second Reinforce by her side. | ||

| Fate now attends school with Nanoha, Arisa, and Suzuka. In the evening, she brings Nanoha to her new home to find that neither Lindy, Chrono, nor Amy are there yet. Since Nanoha's magic hasn't completely returned yet and both Bardiche and Raising Heart are still undergoing repairs, they spend some time playing video games. Just as they are about to take a bath together, Amy returns, bringing Miyuki along. They decide to go to the newly renovated Uminari Sparkle Pool, instead, and take Suzuka and Arisa with them. At the same time, Vita returns home from a walk with Hayate (who is in a wheelchair), when they meet up with Signum, who went to a grocery store. At home, Shamal is making them a dinner, and although the rest of the Wolkenritter are sceptical about her cooking, Hayate claims she's gotten much better at it. She also demonstrates full awareness about their magical nature, as well as extensive knowledge of their character. After the dinner, they want to take a bath together, but Shamal discovers that she has forgotten to heat the water. They, too, decide to go to the Uminari Sparkle Pool instead, despite Signum's reservations. Vita picks a fight with Signum in the changing room but Hayate resolves it quickly. Afterwards, the four of them (Zafira stayed at home) relax in the baths, unaware that Nanoha and Fate are bathing nearby. Suzuka, an acquaintance of Hayate from before, runs into them by chance and chats with them for a while, before returning to her friends. In the end, both parties return to their respective homes late at night, narrowly avoiding collision. After Hayate goes to sleep, Shamal prepares cartridges for Signum and Vita and the two of them leave to search for more Linker Cores, promising to be back in the morning. | |||
