Ceremonial Magic[]
Re: this section being commented out. I thought Thunder Fall was a ceremonial spell? Prime32 14:47, September 6, 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I though so, too, at first. But no spell that can tear down a wall can be ceremonial, I think. ^^; --Koveras Alvane 17:35, September 6, 2010 (UTC)
LK and Mana retcon?[]
I just ran into some material published together with the movies . Apparently at least in the movie verse mana is not generated inside mage's body from like food and such, but is taken in from air by the Linker Core?!? I wonder should we make corrections to that fact here. One could argue that this change only concerns movies though? CetvrtaDimenzija (talk) 20:19, May 31, 2017 (UTC)
- Seems like a retcon to me... but I have been proven wrong about early translations before. IIRC Nanoha being able to collect mana from her surroundings for individual spells like SB has been a big deal in the first two seasons, and there is also a moment either in some old Sound Stage or a manga chapter, where they say that frontline attackers require a massive calorie intake to make up for all the mana they spend... --Koveras Alvane (talk) 05:42, June 1, 2017 (UTC)
- Well after some more talks with some other fans and info from the StrikerS DVD booklet:
For mages, Mana in the atmosphere is linked together in an organ, the “Linker core”, and stored within their body. For quick replenishment, a balanced diet consisting of sugars, carbohydrates and proteins is essential, as are a variety of vitamins and minerals to maintain a healthy body. Therefore out of necessity, mages undergoing hard training during their early growth period eat a much larger diet compared to an ordinary person. Furthermore, pasta and other noodle-type foods are easily digested, so these types of food, known as 「Loading Foods」, are loved by many mages, since they allow for quick energy and Mana replenishment.
- it seems like there are two ways mana can end up in a mage. Firstly apparently mages constantly have their mana replenished via LK who syphons mana from the enviroment. I don't particulary like that they specifically said atmosphere, because that implies you can't do that in space but that's the lore. This process is apparently slow. A much quicker way is by having your body synthesize mana from energy intaken most commonly via food. How exactly food=>mana conversion happens, and is LK involved, has not been explained although there were "theories" but we are not concerned with that.
- As for the validity of the fan translation, I am more of a dabbler into it but that text definitelly starts with mana from in of atmosphere, sooo I don't think it's too incorrect. --CetvrtaDimenzija (talk) 13:02, June 1, 2017 (UTC)
- I think we can expand the article to include both ways of acquiring mana, as you have worded it, because that would make the most sense out of conflicting sources. Do you want to do it? --Koveras Alvane (talk) 17:16, June 2, 2017 (UTC)
- Okay I made a change to the article. I mainly stuck to what was said in the dictionaries, outright quoting the part for food. Also now that I think about it, it could also be that while LK naturally processes mana from atmosphere the energy from food is not converted directly into mana but is used to help LK operate more efficiently therefore boosting it's mana processing speed.
